The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all production activities to ensure that the facility operates efficiently, safely, and meets production targets. This role involves coordinating with different departments, supervising production staff, and ensuring the quality and timeliness of manufactured products. The Production Manager must maintain a strong focus on continuous improvement, operational efficiency and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
- Plan, organize and direct the daily production activities across multiple shifts to meet production schedules and operational goals.
- Lead and manage a team of supervisors, union employees, maintenance staff, and contractors, ensuring performance expectations are met.
- Oversee the effective operation of the forge plant, focusing on safety, quality, productivity and cost control.
- Develop and manage manpower plans to ensure optimal staffing levels.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, environment regulations and company policies.
- Coordinate with maintenance, engineering and quality control teams to resolve operational issues and improve productivity.
- Manage the collective bargaining process, ensuring adherences to the current Collective Agreement and handle grievance procedures.
- Ensure that all training requirements are scheduled, completed and properly documented.
- Implement and oversee continuous improvement activities, leveraging problem solving tools and methodologies to optimize processes.
- Manage production scheduling, material requirements, and adherence to on-time delivery targets.
- Ensure all corrective actions are completed in a timely and effective manner.
Requirements:
- Supervisor training or equivalent experience.
- 5 to 10 years of related experience.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a dynamic, high pressure unionized environment.
- Extensive knowledge of the forging processes, machinery and products, wit the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Deep understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including WHMIS, and the Labour Relations Act.
- Knowledge of dimensions pertinent to forging operations and proficiency in process and tool design.
- Skilled in operating forging equipment and managing production through IT and ERP systems (e.g. DAX, MS Excel).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make prompt and effective decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and lead others towards achieving operational goals.
- Experience in managing safety, quality and productivity in a fast paced, multi-shift environment.
- Expertise in managing CI (Continuous Improvement) activities and setting/achieving operational objectives.
